What is RECT?
Aimed at members in the early part of their career, RECT offers a blend of CPD, training and social activities.  Always heavily over-subscribed, early application is strongly advised!

Am I eligible to apply for RECT?
If you are an NEU member working in the Northern Region and aged 35 or under or in your first two years of employment then you are eligible to apply for RECT.

Accommodation
RECT is a residential event and, unless you request otherwise, single accommodation will automatically be reserved for you on Friday and Saturday evening when your place is confirmed.

My friend has also applied for RECT - can we share a room?
Yes. We have a budget for the event and if friends are willing to share then we can allow more people to attend. Please indicate that you wish to share a room on your application form otherwise you will both be allocated separate rooms.

Can my partner attend?
Yes but they will need to pay for meals and any supplementary room charges unless they are a RECT participant. Please indicate that your partner wishes to accompany you on the application form.

I live locally. Do I need to stay at the hotel?
No. However, we encourage a social aspect to the event as we feel that networking with others who have similar experiences is a valuable part of RECT. If you do not wish to stay at the hotel please make this clear on your application otherwise a room will automatically be reserved for you.
Is it possible to stay at the hotel for only one evening as I have other arrangements?
Yes. Please indicate your preference on the application form otherwise a room will automatically be reserved for you on both Friday and Saturday evening.

What happens if my plans for the weekend change?
The hotel will charge us in full for late cancellations so we would appreciate as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend. Also since we turn members away every year early notification of your cancellation will enable us to offer your place to someone else.

Will the NEU reimburse my travel costs?
Yes. We will pay 45p per mile if you travel by car or we will reimburse 2nd class rail fare upon production of a receipt.

I have attended RECT before. Can I go again?
Possibly! As you can appreciate resources are limited and priority will be given to members who have not attended previously and/or members from Local Authorities who are not represented. Applications are date and time stamped and places offered in strict order of application. If you are not immediately successful your details will be held on a reserve list and you may be offered a place nearer the date of the event should we receive any late cancellations.
